"Smile Fitness"

You may be seeing some improvements by now, especially on your front teeth. If you are, you have more reason than ever to smile!

Freddy FitSmile

You may be using "head gear" by now. If so, be sure to follow the instruction your dentist or orthodontist has given to you, or you'll just be wasting your own time (and money!) Head gear can be worn while you're watching television, playing on the computer, or studying. It should NOT be worn while you're participating in or playing sports, because you could injure yourself if you get hit. One last word about head gear: for some reason, pets love to get a hold of it. If you let them, it can quickly become a favorite chew toy, so be sure you never leave it where Fido can get a hold of it.

While your face and smile are improving their fitness, you might want to consider some other "fitness" ideas. Keeping your face clean, especially if you're in those adolescent years, is very important right now. Keeping your teeth as white as can be can also help your "smile fitness."

Here are a few tips to help you have the best smile you can:

  • Brush with a soft bristle toothbrush after meals with a flouride toothpaste

  • Floss once a day to get all the stuff your toothbrush misses

  • Cut down on foods with sugar

  • Have your teeth cleaned at least once a year (preferably twice)

  • Wear a mouth guard during contact sports

  • Wear your retainer during the night, while watching TV, or studying

  • Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth while you sleep

  • Avoid smoking!
