You've probably already learned that there are certain foods you should avoid while in braces. Your dentist, orthodontist, or the dental assistant has clued you in on the foods that can damage your brackets and archwires. Or you've learned the hard way by trying that taffy, Skittleâ , or (oh no!) ice! Then, add that to the fact that after your appointment you don't really feel like eating, you might begin to feel that you can't eat anything at all! Don't despair! Here are a few helpful hints for that "sweet tooth" you have that could take the place of those gooey, chewy candy bars now and for good (and they're better for you, too!) |

For that sweet tooth, try: applesauce; pudding; custard; mousse; Jell-O; canned pears; meringue pies; banana or banana cream pie; Carnation Instant Breakfastâ ; knishes; cottage cheese; or pancakes. |
If it's dinner you're trying to make with sore gums, try: sliced hard boiled eggs; egg, tuna, or pasta salads (without the bread; you might not be able to take the bite anyway); macaroni and cheese; soup; scrambled eggs; cottage cheese; and quiche. |
For a great milkshake, blend 1 cup of ice cold milk, ½ cup of fresh fruit, and 2 tablespoons of honey, molasses, maple or chocolate syrup in your blender for 30 seconds. Enjoy! |
For a creamy cheesecake, hand mix 2 tablespoons of corn starch, 1 cup of sugar, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, ½ cup of heavy cream, and 4 pkgs. of cream cheese (8 oz. each) in a bowl. Spoon the mix into a graham cracker preformed pie shell, and bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes. Mmmmm! |
