After you've had your braces for a few months, you may begin to see changes in the position of some of your teeth. You've gotten into a good habit of seeing your dentist or orthodontist regularly, and you are brushing after each meal and at home (right?) Now you may begin to see some visible progress. You might find that chewing your food is a little easier. And since chewing is the first step to digestion, if your teeth are straight, you can chew and digest food properly. |

Another change you may be seeing is that you are better able to brush your teeth and reach the tough spots. Crooked teeth are harder to clean, so it's easier to get cavities and gum problems. With your braces, paying close attention to brushing is very important, but as your teeth straighten, brushing will actually become easier. |

Best of all, as you begin to see the changes in your teeth, you'll see the change in your smile. It becomes much more attractive as the teeth align, and you become less self-conscious about how your smile looks. Some people, before they had braces, found themselves putting their hand over their mouth when they smiled or laughed. After the braces, however, they let the happiness show all over their face! No more hiding crooked teeth. So keep your eyes out for more changes. Take a look at your "before" pictures, and see the new you beginning to emerge! |
