In our first issue, we talked about some of the braces terms you might need to know. If you have a problem, its good to know what something is called so that you can ask your dentist or orthodontist about a specific appliances. Here are a few more terms that can help you learn more about your treatment. |

Bite This is the way your teeth fit together when you bring them together as you would when you are chewing.
Overbite This is just a term used to describe the upper teeth biting over the lower teeth. Some overlap of the upper teeth is normal, but too much can cause severe problems and facial changes. Overbite is very common.
Crossbite Your teeth are supposed to fit in your mouth in an orderly way. That is, all of the upper teeth fitting slightly on the outside of your lower teeth. When a lower tooth slips to the outside of an upper tooth, you have a "crossbite". |

Hook This is a small, added attachment placed directly on the archwire (see Volume 1) usually to attach rubber bands. If a hook breaks between appointments, you should call your dentist or orthodontist. |

A1s or "Ties" These are the little colored rings used to hold the archwire to the brackets. They help activate the archwire. |
